There is something incredibly special about watching a family grow and getting to know the family as they continue to return to the island. Rick and Jenn Cosse have been making the trip to Turks and Caicos for years and Villa Renaissance has become their home away from home. This most recent session brought their biggest group yet: their two little ones, Sophie and baby Wyatt, Rick’s sister with her one-year-old daughter, and his mom with her best friend and godmother to one of the children. Eight people in a beautiful villa style resort setting, and a whole lot of love to document.
Where It All Started
We first met Rick and Jenn back in 2023. They came to the island for a babymoon maternity shoot for just the two of them, standing on the edge of something brand new. We photographed Jenn in that beautiful anticipatory glow that only expectant mothers carry.
A year later, they came back with Sophie, and we got to capture those tender early family-of-three moments. Sophie was tiny then. Now with a bright personality and a little brother to play with. Each visit with the Cosse family has felt like turning a page in a story we are lucky to be part of, and this chapter might be our favorite yet.
Photographing Beach Babies
The focus of this session was on the kids of course. The two little ones were taking in the world with wide, curious eyes, content to be held and carried and passed between arms that clearly adore him. Sophie, on the other hand, was able to run and explore. Watching them together made for some of the most genuinely joyful images we have ever captured at Villa Renaissance.
Rick and Jenn move through a session the way parents of two small children do: with a kind of relaxed confidence that can only come from practice. They know how to follow their kids’ lead, how to let a moment happen instead of forcing it. That instinct makes our job so much easier, and the photos so much more real.
Family Beach Portraits
Bringing this family together for portraits had a warmth and ease that made it feel natural. Rick’s mom was there, clearly overjoyed to be surrounded by family on the island they all love. His sister brought her own little one, another one-year-old, which meant two babies in the mix and a built-in source of entertainment between every set of frames.
After taking pictures of the full group, we then gave the main focus of the session to the family of four as that was most important to them for documenting their little family unit.
Villa Renaissance gives you so much to work with as a backdrop. We started the session on the property itself, using the striking architecture around the pool and the lush garden paths lined with palms. The light filtered through the trees in a way that felt effortless, and the kids were at ease on familiar ground.
Then we moved to the beach, and everything opened up. The shoreline gave us that signature Turks and Caicos turquoise water stretching out behind the family, brilliant and wide. We worked along the water’s edge and then up into the dunes, which added a softer, more textured feel to the gallery. By the time the session was done, we had plenty of content for Rick and Jenn to have gallery of images with great variety of settings.
Looking forward to next time!
Rick and Jenn, thank you. Thank you for coming back to us, for trusting us with these moments year after year, it’s exciting to watch your family grow! Seeing this little family each time they visit Turks and Caicos is one of the real privileges of doing what we do. We cannot wait to see you all next time!
If your family is planning a trip to Turks and Caicos and you want portraits that capture exactly who you are right now, we would love to hear from you.
