There is something incredibly meaningful about gathering multiple generations together in one place, especially somewhere as beautiful as Turks and Caicos. For Nancy and Bob Edick and their family, this vacation was another special return to the islands they love so much. Having visited Turks and Caicos before and previously taken family portraits at Sapodilla Bay, they wanted this year’s session to feel fresh and different while still capturing the relaxed beauty of the islands.
Instead of returning to the same beach, we brought them to one of our favorite stretches of shoreline on the opposite side of the island for a secluded beach photo session. The location offered a quiet atmosphere, turquoise water, and an incredible sunset backdrop that turned into one of the most beautiful evenings imaginable for family photography in Turks and Caicos.
A Multi-Generational Family Session in Paradise
Nancy and Bob were traveling with their entire family including their three adult children, their spouses, and five grandchildren. Large family portrait sessions like this are always incredibly rewarding because they capture a chapter of life that becomes even more valuable with time.
We started the evening with full family portraits along the shore. One of the best things about photographing extended families in Turks and Caicos is having the ability to create a wide variety of images in a single session. The beach gave us the perfect setting for both formal portraits and relaxed fun moments too.
We spent time capturing each family, and importantly, the grandparents with all their grandchildren. Those images became some of the most meaningful portraits of the evening. The connection between generations is always something special to document, especially in such a peaceful tropical setting.
Individual Family Portraits by the Water
Each of Nancy and Bob’s children also had their own mini family portrait session within the evening. This gave every family the opportunity to have a collection of portraits unique to them while still being part of the larger extended family experience.
We photographed playful moments with the kids running along the shoreline, individual portraits of the children, and beautiful sibling images too. These kinds of portraits often become some of the most treasured because they document family relationships in such a natural and timeless way.
The whole family gathered together for an evening on the beach allowed everyone to truly enjoy the experience so that the session felt like an extension of their vacation together in Turks and Caicos, making memories whilst it was captured.
The Perfect Turks and Caicos Sunset
The conditions that evening could not have been more beautiful. The ocean was calm and the air was still, reflecting soft pastel tones across the water. Golden sunlight slowly transitioned into pink hues as fluffy clouds caught the final light of sunset.
Their pastel colored clothing complemented the evening light perfectly. The family’s wardrobe selection of soft blues, pinks, neutrals, and light tones blended beautifully with the colors of the ocean and sky, creating a timeless and cohesive look throughout the gallery.
Choosing the right outfits for a beach portrait session can completely elevate the final images, and Nancy and Bob’s family absolutely nailed the aesthetic for this sunset session. The combination of the soft evening light and coordinated pastel tones gave the photographs a dreamy, elegant feel that perfectly matched the atmosphere of Turks and Caicos.
Turning Sunset Memories Into Artwork
One of the most meaningful parts of this session is knowing that Nancy and Bob selected large watercolor prints of the full family with a sunset background, taken during the final moments as the sun was dipping below the horizon.
There is something incredibly special about turning vacation memories into artwork that lives inside your home. These portraits are not only reminders of a beautiful trip to Turks and Caicos, but also reminders of this season of life together with their children and grandchildren.
Every time they look at those watercolor prints in their home, they’ll bring Turks and Caicos sunset with them too as they’re transported back to that calm evening on the beach with pink skies, warm ocean air, and the people they love most surrounding them.
Family Photography in Turks and Caicos
Extended family sessions are some of our favorite experiences to photograph because they preserve moments that become more valuable every year.
