We love kids! As photographers in Turks and Caicos, we get to see lots of families with kids, and we sure have seen some of the cutest in our portrait sessions!! A key to photographing children is to keep them interested. Sometimes we play fun games with them like looking for geckos in the garden, making a family of seashells or simply playing peekaboo. Whether it’s a toddler who is experiencing walking or sitting on the sand for the first time or it’s siblings that hug each other we always try to do fun things kids to make sure our little ones stay engaged and have a good time. That will always ensure we get the best smiles from our little ones.
Making sure kids are having fun and letting them be themselves when they are on the beach is key for memorable and real life photos. We always try to get pictures that will satisfy Mom and Dad, whether that’s getting ones looking at camera, playing, or hugging a palm tree, we know all the tricks to get the best expressions for our kids photos. When photographing children we make sure to always get them together as siblings and individually. It’s so cute to see brothers and sisters together or giving a bear hug. When it comes to really small children and babies it’s often hard to get them to look at the camera so we let them play in the sand and pick up shells or sand on the beach. Even for the smallest of babies, we are able to get nice and low to the ground which allows us to get the right angle to photograph them crawling or sitting with beautiful Grace Bay beach in the background. We love to see twinning outfits between parents and kids. Nothing’s cuter than a mom wearing the same summer dress as her daughter or a dad and his boys in identical polos and shorts. To tie the family look together, simply make sure the colors in the guys’ and girls’ outfits are coordinated.
Making the kids stand out with their outfits is another great idea. We love this styling tip especially for newborn babies in the family. While the entire family is dressed in shades of navy blue, for example, dressing the baby in all white is a great way to bring attention to him or her as the center of the show. This works nicely especially when photographing with grandparents. Flipping the script sometimes works too. If you have more than one child dress them in a beautiful color or print, while mom and dad stay dressed in white.
Aside from making sure the kids are coordinated nicely, you want to make sure they’re happy and comfortable in what they’re wearing too. Consider the island’s climate before choosing clothing, and also the things they do and don’t like. We know some girls love hair bows and flowers, for example, while others don’t.
