As a Turks & Caicos destination photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to witness some of the most heartwarming family moments unfold against the most stunning backdrops imaginable. One of those special stories comes from Demi and her son Johnny, who joined me for a session during a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation that brought 16 loved ones together under one beautiful roof, literally.
This session was more than just a photoshoot. It was a celebration of connection, joy, and the kind of travel that reminds us why we take the time to slow down and capture these fleeting moments.
From Wisconsin to Warmth: Why Turks & Caicos Was the Family’s First Villa Getaway
Demi and her extended family were escaping the frigid winter back home in Wisconsin. They’ve done the all-inclusive thing before, Mexico, resorts, the works – but this was their first time vacationing in Turks and Caicos. More notably, it was their first time sharing a private villa instead of splitting into separate hotel rooms.
And it was a game-changer.
They stayed at Villa Samsara, a luxury beachfront villa that overlooks the dazzling turquoise waters of Providenciales. With a private infinity pool, hot tub, and in-villa chef service, it was the kind of place where everyone could relax in their own space but still come together for meals, swims, and laughter in one breathtaking setting.

Demi told me the best part of the entire trip wasn’t just the sunshine or even the villa – it was having everyone together under one roof, in a place that felt peaceful, safe, and soaked in beauty.
Documenting Motherhood: Demi and Johnny’s Special Session
Demi booked a photo session specifically to capture the bond between her and her 4-year-old son, Johnny. She tries to schedule a session on every family vacation, and one of her favorite phone wallpapers was of Johnny playing in the ocean from a previous trip.
“I already know,” she said with a laugh, “he’s going in the water again.”
And she was absolutely right.
We started the session with some portraits around Villa Samsara. Its modern architecture, open-air design, and thoughtful landscaping offered the perfect background for the kind of images Demi wanted – ones that would help her remember not just the vacation, but the feeling of being in this place.
When we made our way down to the water, the tone shifted. This session became all about Johnny.
The Joy of Letting Kids Be Kids
A a photographer, I always try to adapt to each child’s energy and Johnny brought pure sunshine. He ran up and down the beach, splashed in the surf, rolled in the waves, and didn’t care one bit that he was soaking wet, fully clothed, and had sand in his hair.
It was glorious.
He laughed the entire time. His smile was genuine and unstoppable. And those are the kinds of photos that make your heart skip a beat every time you see them.
By the end of the session, Demi was thrilled. She told me she’d be replacing her old phone background with one of Johnny, soaking wet and beaming from ear to ear.
Pro tip: If you’re planning a family session in Turks & Caicos, don’t stress about keeping the kids clean. Bring a towel, maybe a change of clothes, and embrace the fun. Some of the best shots happen when kids are free to be themselves.
Why Turks & Caicos is Perfect for Family Portraits
While Turks is famous for its destination weddings (and for good reason), it’s also a dream location for luxury family portraits. Here’s why:
- Stunning natural light year-round. We’re talking golden hour magic on every beach.
- Private villas offer privacy and flexibility for large families or multi-generational trips.
- Kids feel free and adventurous, which makes the photos relaxed and joyful.
- Professional, local vendors know the island and help make planning effortless.
Whether you’re planning a destination wedding, a babymoon, or a milestone trip like Demi’s, Turks and Caicos delivers the kind of beauty you’ll never forget.
