Over the years, we’ve seen countless love stories unfold through wedding photography against the backdrop of our breathtaking turquoise waters and sun-drenched shores in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Each one has its own unique magic and for Tammy and Mark, they had dedicated thoughtfulness into all the details to make the occasion very special for their wedding guests and the celebrations.
The couple had hand-picked Sandy Bottom Villa for their destination wedding. Located on the south side of Providenciales, it had spectacular ocean views across the shallow sandy banks and would be an impressive sight for arriving guests who were staying in other resorts and hotels around the island.
However, Tammy and Mark’s Turks and Caicos wedding journey began the year before as they had come to the islands on a site visit, a savvy move for any couple looking to truly envision their day and meet with the various vendors in real life. It was a chance to build a picture of their wedding day. The trip also presented a perfect opportunity to schedule an engagement photo shoot, a decision that proved invaluable for the main event.
The Power of the Pre-Wedding Site Visit and Engagement Session
From our very first conversation, Tammy and Mark had been candid about not feeling overly comfortable in front of a camera. We have found this to be the case with many couples with some natural anxieties about how to pose, how to look relaxed and truly feel themselves in their pictures. It is therefore our job as professional photographers to put them at ease. An engagement shoot is a perfect way to do this before any wedding day nerves, and our pristine beaches always deliver a stunning backdrop! Our session with Tammy and Mark was wonderful practice session where we experimented with different ideas, building the trust that is so essential between a couple and their photographer. The session allowed the couple to relax and genuinely enjoy the process. We even did a fun dip which became one of their favorite pictures and a request for their wedding day. It worked out even more beautifully on the big day too, because we timed the dip with the sunset, turning it into a very romantic moment!
Finding Perfect Caribbean Light
Finally, the wedding was just days away, Tammy and Mark were enjoying the luxurious villa with their close family, and we met once again to go over the timeline and have a walk-through. For a photographer at a villa wedding, this is a crucial step to examine how the sunlight will affect specific areas at different times of the day, ensuring everything from the arch placement to the group portrait location is optimized for breathtaking imagery. Sandy Bottom Villa has its own private beach and we also had the tides to contend with. Whether it would be high or low tide at the time of the ceremony would affect how much sand was exposed on the beach and we needed space for their guests to sit. Fortunately, it worked out perfectly to have the arch and chairs exactly where we wanted them for the best lighting too.
As always, our goal is to produce stunning photographs which maximize the use of natural light that is characteristic of the islands. This proactive approach ensures we aren’t just taking photos, but crafting visual memories that are both beautifully lit and compositionally appealing too.
Capturing Moments of Anticipation and the Bridal Party
We began the wedding day photography with Tammy as she was finishing getting ready and adding the final touches. We focused on detail shots that tell their own small stories with the intricate elements and then moved on to capture the bride and her bridesmaids.
We also focused on Mark and his groomsmen who had requested their photos be taken outside. We captured their camaraderie for portraits that were both fun and distinguished to have a mix of the classic looks as well as a cool vibe with sunglasses on.
Vows Under a Driftwood Arch Surrounded by Family and Friends
The ceremony space itself was a masterpiece, perfectly reflecting the natural beauty of the island setting. A gorgeous driftwood arch at the water’s edge was meticulously adorned with delicate flowers and elegant drapery. The guests, comprised of immediate family and a joyful multitude of friends, were seated. The emotional depth was palpable as the groom made his entrance with his mother, followed by the bride, escorted by her proud father down the aisle towards her waiting love. It was a ceremony filled with love, laughter, and sincere vows.
Immediately after they were pronounced, the celebratory atmosphere took over. We prioritized group pictures with everyone, the immediate family on both sides and then, understanding how truly important friends are in Tammy and Mark’s lives, we ensured we had dedicated shots of them with their friends, and of course, the bridal party. Their fun personalities shone throught when the bridal party was asked to carry the bride and they were excited to entertain the idea!
While the guests ascended to the villa’s magnificent rooftop terrace for cocktail hour, enjoying panoramic views and warm breezes, we kept Tammy and Mark on the beach for some couples photos. We used this time to create some dramatic images posing on the rocks and playful photos with the veil, letting the natural surroundings inspire us.
Balancing Golden Hour Portraits with Meaningful Time Among Your Guests
The key to a truly wonderful destination wedding is balance. Tammy and Mark didn’t want to miss a moment of celebrating with the people they had invited, so they opted to join their guests for a short period of cocktail hour where we took some candid photographs and merriment.
The sun disappears quickly below the horizon in Turks and Caicos, so it wasn’t long before we whisked them back to the beach. As the sun began its descent, painting the sky with those quintessential orange, pink, and purple hues that we are so famous for, we made the most of this perfect light for romantic couple photos. It was the perfect way to conclude this part of the wedding day, ensuring they had images that truly reflected the magic of their evening.
An Elegant Poolside Reception to Celebrate
The dinner reception was held outside on the pool deck. Guests were seated at round tables that added a classic touch of elegance to the open-air setting. After a lively announcement by the DJ, the couple shared their first dance, a moment that felt both powerful and serene. Following that, they shared dances with their respective parents, each one an emotional highlight in an already unforgettable day. We then left Tammy and Mark to dine and celebrate the evening with their loved ones. Reflecting on their journey, it’s clear that their strategic pre-planning, from the site visit and the practice engagement session to the meticulously mapped-out walk-throughs, had truly allowed them to be present and fully embrace the love and joy that their perfect island wedding brought.
