When Jordan and Tia originally booked their session with us, they were simply planning on capturing beautiful vacation portraits together. But life had other plans—Jordan had proposed to Tia just days before, right after arriving in Turks and Caicos. Suddenly, this wasn’t just a couple’s shoot, it was an engagement session marking a life-changing chapter in their journey.
We arrived at their villa early that morning, ready to explore the windswept bluffs and hidden beaches Sailrock is known for. As I extended my hand to greet Jordan, I noticed something unusual – Jordan didn’t have any arms. He was warm, welcoming, dressed in a crisp shirt, and exuded a calm, joyful energy that immediately set the tone for the session. As a professional photographer, I’ve learned to adapt quickly and read my clients’ energy. But what I didn’t expect was the profound story that would unfold.
The Story Behind the Smile: Jordan’s Journey
About halfway through our shoot—after capturing some truly stunning moments along the cliffs, beaches, and cove—Jordan shared his story. Years ago, he had been working on electrical infrastructure when a live wire fell, electrocuting him and throwing him from his bucket truck into a ditch. His uncle, working beside him, ran to save him, giving CPR and absorbing the electric current himself. Tragically, his uncle collapsed shortly after flagging down help and passed away.
Jordan survived against all odds after enduring life-threatening burns and the eventual loss of both arms. His rehabilitation was long, grueling, and emotional. And yet, here he stood—smiling, laughing, holding the love of his life (in his own way), and celebrating not just an engagement but the resilience of the human spirit.
This wasn’t just an engagement shoot. It was a celebration of life.
Creating Photographs with Heart (and Drone Magic)
We brought along our drone for this session, knowing that the landscape of South Caicos deserved to be captured from every angle. Sweeping aerial shots of Jordan and Tia embracing on the shoreline, framed by cliffs and two-tone waters, became some of the most iconic images from the shoot. We moved between sandy beaches, rocky lookouts, and that signature cove, letting the natural landscape tell its own part of their love story.
