There is something incredibly special about a couple choosing to say their vows in Turks and Caicos shore, on a stretch of beach they will remember for the rest of their lives. A destination wedding asks everyone to travel, to slow down, to gather in one place for a few days that belong entirely to the people getting married. That is exactly what Nikki and Parker did when they chose the Ritz-Carlton on Grace Bay Beach for their wedding, bringing more than forty of their closest family and friends along with them to Turks and Caicos.
We were lucky enough to be part of it from start to finish, and it turned into one of those days we still find ourselves smiling about.
Meeting the Bride and Groom
We met Nikki and Parker a couple of days before the wedding in the lobby of The Ritz-Carlton. It was our first time sitting down together in person, and it’s in these pre-wedding meetings where we can get to know the bride and groom a little and understand their priorities for photography. We talked through the timeline we had prepared and sent in advance from a previous phone call consultation, and we discussed the flow of the day, and simply got to know each other. The relationship between wedding couples and the photographer is so important for such a momentous occasion, especially as we’ll be spending a significant amount of time together on the big day.
We quickly learned that Nikki likes to be organized and as any enthusiastic bride should, she had spent some time over the months leading up to the wedding gathering inspiration photos. Some from our own social media pages, and some from Pinterest, and she had collected some fun poses which mattered most to her. We loved that. It gave us a clear indication of what she was dreaming of, and it was our job to incorporate those must-have shots into the couple’s portraits together. On a sidenote, we like to make them even better than the inspo!
Wedding Preparation Photos
On the wedding day, we started in the bridal suite where the girls were still in their robes, enjoying time together and getting ready. The room had that warm, buzzing energy that always comes before a wedding. The suite itself was a gift to photograph. Big open windows let the light pour in, and the balcony opened straight out to that bright turquoise ocean.
While the girls were slipping into their dresses, we moved down the hall to the groom’s suite, just a few doors away, to spend some time with Parker and the guys. Those getting-ready moments with the groomsmen are always a good time, full of easy jokes and a little nervous excitement.
Then it was back to the girls for the bridal beauty shots. We photographed Nikki in the suite with her mother and grandmother, her bridesmaids, then some portraits of her on her own and her beautiful bouquet. That natural window light coming into the room gave us some gorgeous, elegant images of the ladies. We then stepped out on the balcony for the backdrop of expansive ocean views and bright turquoise water that draws us so captivatingly to Turks and Caicos.
The Ceremony on the Beach
In the late afternoon, guests were making their way down to the beach where the arch was set on the sand, and the anticipation was building. The ceremony on Grace Bay was full of heartfelt, genuine moments and with everyone gathered together, surrounded by white sand and that famous blue water, Nikki and Parker exchanged their vows in exactly the setting they had hoped for.
During the ceremony, nobody is thinking about the camera. Everyone is simply present, and our job is to catch the moments of the ceremony as they unfold.
Post-Ceremony Photos
Once the ceremony wrapped, we moved first into the formal photos. We started with the full group of everyone, then worked through the family groupings on the beach, making sure each combination we had planned for was taken. From there we had some fun with the bridal party, keeping things playful and fun.
Nikki had told us early on that she loved candid photos, so throughout all of this we kept an eye out for the in-between moments, the laughter and the glances that happen in just a split-second.
Then came the light we had been waiting for. As the sun dropped lower and approached the horizon, this was the window for Nikki and Parker’s couple beach portraits, and it was worth the wait. We guided the couple through a mix of candid, fun and romantic poses, as well as bringing in those inspiration shots Nikki wanted.
Wedding Reception and Dancing
Stepping away from the beach, Nikki and Parker rejoined their guests on the hotel lawn for their reception event. There were speeches from family and bridesmaids that made people feel all the emotions. Following the cutting of the cake and dinner, the dance floor opened up and from there it was pure celebration. Nikki and Parker danced the night away surrounded by everyone who had traveled so far to be with them, and the joy was impossible to miss.
A Day We Were Grateful to Photograph
Looking back on it all, what stays with us is how complete the day felt. Nikki and Parker did not just get married in Turks and Caicos, they brought their whole world to a beautiful Caribbean island and made memories that will last a lifetime.
