Visitors to Turks and Caicos are magnetized to the incredible sunsets we are so fortunate to witness every day. Indeed, it’s one of the most spectacular sights you can imagine after a day at the beach, as the sun dips below the horizon of the Caribbean Sea and we observe the earth’s daily lighting display.
No Two Sunsets Are the Same
If you’re visiting the islands for a week and sit and watch the sunset from a sun lounger every evening, even from the same spot, guaranteed, you’ll be treated to a unique and wonderful experience each night.
On a bright, clear day, vivid saturated hues and sunrays cut through the frame like something out of a painting. On a partly cloudy day, you get soft layers of light blue, lilac, and peach all working together. No matter what the sky decides to do, the light at this time has a quality that makes you appreciate and wonder at the natural world we live in.
Extended Family Photos
If you have a larger family with grandparents, parents, siblings, and younger children, a sunset session gives you the opportunity to use a variety of backdrops for your big group. This is because, at the beginning, you’ll have bright blue water, and as time goes on, there’s the sunset and a changing sky, with more pastel, diffused colors coming into play.
Island Locations for Sunset
Grace Bay beach runs along almost the entire north shore of Providenciales, the main visitor island in Turks and Caicos. The curves and points along this stretch of shoreline offer a variety of angles for the sunset, and most ensure the sun sets over the ocean.
On the other side of the island is Long Bay beach, which, whilst it doesn’t get the ball of the sun dropping below the horizon, is often lit with soft pastel pinks and gorgeous colors. It offers soft lighting after the brightness, so you can avoid any squinting in pictures.
With the Turks and Caicos located in the tropics, the sun is still very high in the sky in the hour before sunset. This means that a sunset photo session isn’t just the final few minutes before dark. It’s a period of time that starts brightly, with the ocean’s colors in shades of blue and turquoise. As the sun goes down to the horizon, the sun provides a transformation of color from bright blues to oranges and reds in a short window of time. This means that during your session, you’ll get the daytime blues with the added bonus of sunset at the end, which is of course, unattainable at any other time of day!
Timing Is Everything
With the sun setting quickly, Paradise Photography carefully schedules sunset photo sessions so clients can experience the shift in light from daytime blues to the softer evening colors of golden hour. The time of year also shapes the sunset experience on the island. Sunsets in the winter months can be as early as 5pm, and in summer, around 7.30pm, something to plan around if you have young children or are making dinner reservations!
Since the sun is going down, the lighting isn’t as bright, nor is it as hot as earlier in the day, making it a comfortable time for photos, especially for those who may struggle to keep their eyes open. It’s always handy to have a pair of sunglasses ready for the start of the session, and it will become easier as it gets later.
If you’ve ever wondered what makes sunsets in Turks and Caicos so unique, it really comes down to this: the light here changes quickly, from the blues of the daytime to a transformation of the entire sky, not just the horizon. Whether the evening is clear, cloudy, or somewhere in between, the scene is always breathtaking.
