Sometimes the best things in life are the ones you never saw coming. Just ask Grace.
When she pictured her future, she was certain she’d never fall for a military man. Growing up in a military family meant moving from place to place so Grace imagined her forever would feel more rooted, more still.
But life has a funny way of proving us wrong in the most beautiful ways.
When Grace met Will, everything she thought she wanted shifted. He was kind, thoughtful, and a true gentleman. And yes, proudly serving in the military. He turned her “never” into the best yes she could have imagined.
Why Turks & Caicos Was the Only Choice
Will’s family has been coming to Turks & Caicos for years. They fell in love with its warm breezes, calm turquoise waters, and laid-back spirit so deeply that they bought a villa tucked away in the peaceful Leeward area, just steps from the beach. It’s become their home away from home.
When Grace and Will got engaged, it was clear this island was where they’d celebrate this milestone. They reached out to me to plan an engagement session that felt authentic to them: romantic, fun, and full of those only-in-Turks-and-Caicos moments.
💡 Insider Tip: If you’re staying in Leeward, you’re in one of the best spots for secluded beaches and soft sunrise or sunset light. It’s perfect for couples who want privacy and natural beauty.
From Villa Gardens to Turquoise Shores
We started the session at their family villa, where the tropical gardens framed them in the softest island light. Grace wore a beautiful silk dress and high heels. Will is over six feet tall so she wanted a nicely balanced and formal look before they went to the beach. The villa’s lush palms, warm coral walls, and breezy walkways made for timeless portraits that they’ll be proud to share for decades. The couple held hands as they strolled around the shaded pathways smiling ear to ear.
After some sweet, classic shots at the villa, we made our way down to a nearby stretch of beach that’s special to them both. Will’s villa is only steps from one of the prettiest and least busy stretches of Grace Bay beach. It’s the place they sneak off to for sunrise coffee or quiet sunset strolls when they’re on island.
Grace’s silk dress caught the breeze perfectly as the sun lit up the ocean in the brightest turquoise. As the waves lapped on the shore, Grace walked with her toes in the water and Will was happy to get the bottom of his jeans wet to walk next to her. We timed it perfectly to be on the beach when there wasn’t a single person. It was as if this couple were the only two people on an island paradise.
Grace wanted two outfit changes for the engagement so she did a change of clothes to a more casual look with a matching tan linen pants and top. Will kept on his jeans because they looked great on him and they complimented her second outfit choice so well. We returned to a different part of the beach where we did more casual and playful photos compared to the earlier more formal look. Barefoot in the sand, they laughed, splashed, and held each other close as the sun dipped below the horizon.
The Shot That Made the Day
One of my favorite parts of any engagement session is making space for the one photo you’ll never forget. For Will, that was a dramatic shot on the rocks. He envisioned the two of them standing close, waiting for a wave to crash behind them with a feel that was raw, real, and a little wild.
We waited for the perfect moment, counting down as the swell rolled in. The splash hit just right, capturing a spontaneous, cinematic frame of Grace and Will wrapped up in each other, salt spray in the air, laughter echoing across the rocks. It was magic and so perfectly them.
From Save the Dates to Forever
Grace and Will plan to use these engagement portraits for their Save the Date cards and to create a custom guest signing book for their 2027 wedding. They’re also picking out favorites to hang on their walls at home, so every time they walk past them, they’re transported back to this moment on their beloved island.
If you’ve ever wondered if Turks and Caicos is right for your engagement photos, take this as your sign. Whether you’re staying at a resort, a private villa like theirs, or visiting for just a few days, this island offers the perfect blend of privacy, beauty, and natural romance.
